If you are member of SAG, $75. will get you and a guest into 20+ first run films privately screened at the Directors Guild.
Entertainment books have Sony and AMC films for $4.50 each. Prepay will credit card and they will be mailed to you. These are also available through SAG and NYU if you are enrolled, or sometimes on the Lowes website.
The movie theater below Virgin Records in midtown offers discounted movies.
The Museum of Modern Art is the best deal in New York. Annual membership allows you to reserve seats for you and a friend to any of their films. Their schedule includes only high caliber films and often includes work from their archives.
The Museum of Television and Radio is a great resource for seeing great performances from television, or plays that were later broadcast on television. For example, they have Coleen Dewhurst and Jason Robards in A MOON FOR THE MISBEGOTTEN when it played as part of the Theater in America series in the 1970s.
The Performing Arts Library at Lincoln Center has video taped many Broadway and Off Broadway performances. You may see these as long as you have a legitimate reason.
Another way of seeing live theater is to usher. Many Off Broadway theaters use ushers including The Roundabout, Manhattan Theater Club, Playwrights Horizons, Atlantic Theater Company. Find the House Manager of any show one hour before curtain to make the proper arrangements.
Sardis offers half price meals to actors Wednesdays after the matinee. Go to the top floor.
Volunteer for benefits. Many theaters need volunteers for their benefits and you can have a great time and network with working actors, directors, and casting directors. I once saw a great film at a benefit for Naked Angels. It isnt only for theater.
There are also countless film festivals, Sundance being one of them, which use ushers who can get in for free.
Second to None, located in Michigan offers free lunch for you and a friend if you are willing to go undercover and time the service you receive and inspect the bathrooms. Restaurants include: TGIF, Tads Steaks, Java Shop, among others. They also have a plan, which works with Kinkos Copies.

Money:
The best place to save your money is in a money market or mutual fund. An inexpensive place to do it is with Strong Funds, 1-800-368-6860. For fifty dollars a month, you can open a mutual fund account. These savings can add up in a short time and compounded over time can significantly increase in value.
Film Forum:
The Lake Placid Film Forum, www.lakeplacidfilmforum.com is held the first week of June. In 2002, I took several classes for $25 each. They were taught by Tony Shaloub, Elmore Leonard, Campbell Scott. There were 12 people in each class. While these were mostly discussions, they were invaluable, and dirt cheap, set in a beautiful location.
